The students seemed really interested in learning my language. Some of them wanted to write well and some of them just wanted to say the right words. First, we started introducing each other in malayalam. This was of course after teaching them the same. We had fun singing the "Kaakka (crow)" song. It goes like this :
Boy : Kaakke, kaakke koodevide?
Koottinakathoru kunjundo?
Kunjinu theetta kodukkaanjaal
Kunju kidannu karanjeedum
Kaakka : Kunje kunje nee tharumo
Ninnude kyile neyyappam?
Boy : Illa tharoola neyyappam
Ayyo Kaakke patticho!
(A boy is talking with a crow. The boy asks where the crow's nest is and whether there is a baby in the nest. The crow answers that if she doesn't feed the baby, it'll start crying. She sees a sweet in the boy's hand and is requesting the boy to give it, but he refuses. The crow snatches it away from him and the boy feels he is cheated by the crow)
During the second class, we (Vishnu and I) decided how to split the class into level 1 and 2. That was easy. We just asked the students where they wanted to be.
The third week was the most adventurous. Since we split the class, I was not sure where my classroom would be. So, I was running around with my students in tow for a room. Finally, we found a place. The cafeteria! No blackboard, no chalks, no duster. My friend was the good "old" pen and paper. I also felt less nervous because I knew my students. Well, I have been seeing them for two weeks, right? We started with greetings and introduction in malayalam and ended with learning vowels.
There ended my 3rd week in SILC and I am awaiting the future classes where I hope I'll get more students or may be not. I'm hoping to not having to run around. I have decided to take my classes along with the students in level 1. I am sure Vishnu will co-operate with me in this.
